Hi friends, I’m so excited to share my recent vacation with you! Me and my hubby wanted to escape the northeast cold, so we booked a last-minute trip to Aruba! We decided on Aruba because of the short direct flight (~4 hours from Philadelphia) and warm weather (mid-80s). It was my first time there and it was one of the most relaxing trips I’ve taken in a while. Partly because we packed the night before (usually we are rushing around the morning of), and partly because Sophia is getting easier by the day!
We stayed at the Ritz Carlton which is a short car ride from the airport. We booked a one-bedroom deluxe suite because we wanted a separate room for Sophia to sleep in and enough space for her to crawl without bumping into things. Our room also had a huge private wraparound balcony that was amazing to watch sunsets from! We were also able to get some sun from our balcony while Sophia napped. The room was a little pricey but included nice perks like club lounge access (free drinks and little bites).
The beach in Aruba is very similar to Caribbean beaches. The water is clear, flat (there were no waves on this part of the island) and very family friendly. Sophia absolutely loved the water! She loved to splash around in her baby float and be thrown in the air! There are also two large pools with cabanas and two Jacuzzis..;/]-
Food is mediocre on the island. I’m a big foodie, so it’s hard to compete with the Philly and NYC restaurants back home. The food here is also very expensive – at least at the Ritz, where our steak dinner was over $500 for two people! There is also a sushi restaurant (decent) and Italian restaurant (do not recommend) at the resort.
You all know that I love to shop, but surprisingly I don’t like to shop when I’m on vacation! I’d much rather explore or lay out in the sun. If you like to shop, Aruba has a nice downtown area not too far from the airport with both high- and low-end stores. I didn’t buy anything, but my husband bought a Breitling watch that I picked out.
The highlight of our trip was seeing how much Sophia is blossoming. She’s always smiling and laughing, is very observant of her surroundings, and loves to explore! We took her to Turks and Caicos less than 3 months ago, but she is like a whole different baby now. She’s more independent, can sleep through the night, and eat everything that we eat – one of her favorite foods is steak! Watching the sunsets every night with Sophia and my hubby reminded me just how amazing and beautiful life is. ❤
Where’s your favorite beach destination? I’m always looking for ideas for my next trip!
